COURSES :

Introduction to Field Archaeology & Museology

This course includes an introduction to Archaeology, its origin, growth and relationship with other sciences; teachniques and methods of conducting field surveys, excavations, dating methods, documentation, preparation and publication of field reports; archaeological photography, drawing and map reading etc. Museology deals with an introduction to museum, its aims and objectives, types, architecture, security and administration. It also explains the exhibition and display of collection, registration and documentation of antiquities.

 Physical and Cultural Anthropology

It covers topics such as brief description of the Geological Time Scale, the evolution of man, stone tools and their types, the stone age cultures of Africa, Europe, Pakistan, India, China, Afghanistan and Near East.

Early Urbanization in Pakistan and the Emergence of Indus Valley civilization

This course deals with the origin and development of urbanization in India and Pakistan, Pre-Harappan Mature Harappan and Post Harappan phases of Indus Civilization, Bronze Age Culture of Gangetic Valley and the Gandhara Grave Culture.

Ancient World Civilizations

This course comprises origin, development and decline of ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia (Summer, Babylon and Assyria), Greece, Rome, Persia, China and Hebrew and their major achievements in the fields of art, architecture, religion, science and commerce etc.

Ancient History of Pakistan and India

This course consists of ancient history of Pakistan and India starting from the Vedic (Aryan) Period till end of the Hindu Shahi Dynasty.

Academic Literacy and an Introduction to English Grammar-I

This course is intent on providing an appropriate academic base for the students to understand their subject well and to create a skill in written English. It deals with the academic literacy, rules of grammar and analysis of literary work.

Ancient Art and Architecture

It comprises the study of ancient art and architecture of South Asia that developed in Vedic, Jain, Hindu and Buddhist periods till the Hindu Shahis.

Paleography and Epigraphy

This course concentrate on the origin and development of writing systems in South Asia, such as the study of Kharoshthi, Brahmi, Gupta Brahmi and Sharada scripts

Numismatics

This course comprises the origin of coinage in South Asia, history, various techniques of manufacturing coins; coinage of the Indo-Greeks, Scytho-Parthians, Kushans, Hephthalites, Hindu-Shahis, Ghaznavids, Sultanate period, the Mughals and the Durranis.

Muslim Calligraphy, Painting, Minor Art and Crafts

This course covers the concept of painting in Islam, impacts of arts techniques and designs of the neighbouring ancient

civilizations. Furthermore, the different schools that developed during the Muslim rule in Near East, western Asia, Central Asia, North Africa and the subcontinent. Calligraphy covers the origin and development of Arabic script and calligraphic style including the Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth, Nastaliq and their decorative sub style. It will also give an account of other minor arts such as ceramics, metal work etc of the Muslim world.

Muslim Architecture of Pakistan and India

This course comprises of the study of the Imperial (i.e. Early, Medieval and Mughal) and Regional styles of Muslim architecture in the subcontinent.
