Department of English and Applied Linguistics |
|
|
INTRODUCTION:
The Department of English was Established in 1950. From only four students in 1951, the Department has now a population of more than a hundred students (morning and evening). The students have their own literary club, The English Literary Club, whose name is taken from the famous 18th century circle of Dr. Johnson. Fridays are usually reserved for tutorials and club activities. The Department has now been renamed as the Department of English and Applied Linguistics. The seminar library is well-equipped and adequately caters to the needs of BA (Hons), Master and MPhil/PhD students. The Department also runs a French Language course and plans for a German Language course in the near future. |

Message:
Literature and society are vitally connected. Our job, as students of literature, is to see how one impacts the other. Doing so helps us see how there the proverbial “World of books” is no different than the world of reality. We need to understand how studying literature exposes as to the culture and people whose language and literature we study-something that should bring us, human, close. That, I believe, is the purpose of education and of life.
