COURSES :-

Geomorphology

To make the student understand and recognize different types of landforms, the formation and modificaiton and to explain the geomorphic processes and the agents responsible for theses changes.

Meteorology, Climatology & Oceanography

The course is designed for the study of climatic elements, variations in weather and climate both spatially and temporarily. The major climatic regions of the world and the impact of human climate on climatic are also treated as important topic of study. Moreover, in the second part of the subject the origin of oceans, their physical characteristics and geomorphology of the ocean floor is also taught to the students, so that they have upto date knowledge about the weather climate and oceanography.

History and Development of Geographical Thought

To disseminate the geographical thought development in the past, concepts in the field of historical geography and development thought. To develop the concept of unity and diversity in the subject, and the scope of geographical education.

Settlement Geography

The objectives of this paper are:

i) To explain the process of the formation and development of human settlements

(M.Sc Part-I)

(Practical) Geomorphology

Settlement Geography

The objectives of this paper are:

i) To explain the process of the formation and development of human settlements

Ii) To make students understand the process of urbanization and morphology of the cities and towns.

Iii) The application of different theories of settlement and Urban structure to equip the students with knowledge to tackle with contemporary problems of urbanization and human settlement.

Economic Geography

To create an understanding of the World Economics Geography with the help of specific examples from various countries including Pakistan.

Communication Skills

To improve the writing and communication skills of the student in English.

PRACTICAL

To train students in map drawing and map reading. To train students about the use of computers in Geographical analysis.

(Practical)

Geography of Pakistan

i) To improve the understanding of the student about the regional Geography of the country, its resources and relation with other countries of the world.

ii) To give an in depth understanding of Geography of NWFP to equip the students with latest information about the province and its problems.

Political Geography or Dissertation

i) To highlight the political phenomena in geographical context.

ii) To explore the geographical aspect in the emergence and growth of states, frontier and boundaries.

iii) To analyze and highlight the problem of spatial and contemporary political / Administrative Institutions and development.

Quantitative Techniques and Research Methods in Geography

i) To train students in collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantitative spatial data and to enable them to organize and conduct independent research.

ii) To use and database software for the analysis of both Spatial and temporal data.

(M.Sc Part-II)

Population Geography:

Objective of the course is to make student understand the

i) Dynamics of population characteristics;

ii) Relationship between man and environment and resources.

iii) Highlight the importance of demographic data in planning and decision making.

Environmental Geography

The course is designed with the objective to enhance the understanding of the students about the environment, man - environment relation, and its implications for the mankind.

Writing Skills

To improve the writing skills of the students.

Practical

To train students so that they could independently conduct the basic research, report writing and presentation of research in the faculty. To train the students in cartographic techniques and map making to impart knowledge on the cartographic representation of the spatial and temporal data.

Thesis carrying 150 marks is a compulsory part of the course. It will be based on original research work to be undertaken by M.Sc students with a faculty supervisor as per University of Peshawar rules.

Students shall be offered any two of the following .

Techniques in Geomorphology

To impart technical knowledge in Geomorphological research and mapping.

Quaternary Geology

To familiarize the student with the changes occured during the quaternary period during the past 3.0 million years in Pakistan and elsewhere.

Regional Planning

To impart spatial planning related knowledge to the students with examples both from Pakistan and other North / South countries of the world..

 

(M.Sc One year Master in Geography Course)

Urban Planning

This course is framed to train the student\s in Urban planning and other related issues of urban sprawl and urbanization. Examples are gives from Pakistan and elsewhere.

Agricultural Geography

To train students in spatial variation in different agricultural practices in the world, the production environment and variations with examples from Pakistan and elsewhere.

Transportation Geography

To train students in different aspects of transportation, its importance and relevance to development. To highlight the role of Geography in the development of transport.

Social Geography

To familiarize the students with spatial variations in social variables and material culture in different pars of the world, with examples from Pakistan and elsewhere.

(M.Sc One year Master in Geography Course)

Rural Geography

To train the student in different aspects of rural life, its problems and rural development strategies.

Geography of the Muslim World

To train the student in the geography of the Muslim word.

Cultural Geography

To study the way culture works as a tool in man's interaction with environment as its varies from area to area.

Gender Geography

To train the students in gender related issues with particular reference to Pakistan.

Mountain Geography

To train students in mountain related issues. To highlight the importance of mountain for maintaining bio-diversity, resources balance and sustainability.

Urban Planning

It covers basic concepts of Planning, Levels of Planning and spatial implication, Planning Techniques and processes as well as development and Underdevelopment

Planning History and Theory (Mr. M. Mumtaz Khan)

It covers evolution and development of Planning ideas, Urbanization and Emergence of spatial Planning. Theory part covers theories of Planning and theories in Planning.

Environmental Planning Law practice and Management. (Mr Zulfiqar Ali)

It covers Importance and relevance of law to practical planning. Physical and Environmental Legislation in Pakistan. NEQs and By Laws.

Urbanization and Urban Sprawl. (Mr Niaz Ahmad)

It covers basic concepts and definition, Urban hierarchy and theories of urban structure. Urbanization trends and conditions, Urban problems and impact on natural resources, Institutional and financial frame work for future development.

Development / Policy Studies.(Prof. Dr. Amir Khan)

It includes process of policy formulation, Implementation and Techniques in policy analysis, study of various National Policies.
