INTRODUCTION
T he Department of History was one of the first departments in the University. So far this is the only postgraduate department of History in the entire province. Students from several parts of the world flock to the department that is located in the University’s vast and beautiful campus in search of knowledge. The department of history started functioning in the Islamia College, later it was shifted to the 1 st floor above the Botany department opposite the Student Teacher Centre. The department has recently been shifted to the 1 st floor above the Area Study Centre, adjacent to the Pakistan Study Centre. Now the Dean, Faculty of Arts office has also been shifted to the same location. |

Vision
The vision of the Department of History is to establish itself as the premier social sciences program at the M.A., M. Phil., and Ph.D., levels in Pakistan, at least in the public sector. In a social sciences program, the principal determinants of research output are the strength of the faculty, both in qualitative and quantitative aspects, and the level of enthusiasm and competence of the students enrolled. |

Mission
Our mission is to create a class of educated people who are conscious of their glorious past to inspire them to achieve an even better future and who are also mindful of the pitfalls of history that have caused the downfall of great nations and mighty civilizations in order to avoid that same mistakes from being committed. Our mission is to build a strong, prosperous and enlightened Pakistan by inculcating the spirit of freedom, liberty, self reliance and modernity among our students to spread it further among all the people of Pakistan.
A graduate of the Department should be capable of recognizing how study of the past may be used for the betterment of the future. Our graduate should be able to recognize the value of true research and human values for furthering national and international peace and harmony. They should be able to demonstrate sufficient capability to be objective, analytical and methodic individuals.
