INTRODUCTION :-
The Department of Persian was established in 1956. It has rendered valuable services in promoting Persian Literature.
Apart from the importance of Persian language in strengthening cultural, linguistic and spiritual links with other Islamic countries, the department has been instrumental in preserving the cultural spiritual values of our country. The period of Muslim ascendancy in South Asia is often referred to as the Golden Age of the entire Muslim history in the subcontinent. The original material of the history of Muslim ascendancy in India is almost all in Persian. It is saddening to observe that scholars of history who also possess a good knowledge of classical Persian are fast disappearing.
There is hardly any University teacher from Peshawar to Karachi who can directly read the original Persian source material and due to lack of proficiency in Persian, they read books written by Eastern writers and Indian historians and learn their own history from books written by alien hand. The Persian Department, University of Peshawar is the only source of hope in N.W.F.P. where we can quench our thirst and produce graduates who can meet the above mentioned challenges. |
