COURSES :-

Greek Philosophy:

This course consists of two main parts, i.e. , Pre-Socratic and the Post-Socratic period Philosophers from Thales to Sophists are discussed; while Post-Socratic period concentrates mainly on Plato and Aristotle.

Medieval Philosophy (Dr. Khurshid Anwar)

Main focus of this course is on issues such as, Reason vs Revelation, Free will and Determinism; Nature of God, Man and the external world; Immortality of Soul, etc.

Introduction to Psychology (Mr. Suhail Ahmad Mian)

This course concentrates on theories of learning and perception. Some of the leading schools such as behaviorism, Psycho-analysis, Ggestalt theory, Psychology of religion, etc.

Early Modern European Philosophy (Mr. Sher Wahab)

This course runs from F. Bacon to David Hume and covers the Empiricists, and rationalists approach to epistemology; theory of Morals and of Politics.

Later Modern European Philosophy.(Miss Samina)

Some of the leading modern thinkers such as,Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Comte and karl Marx are examined at great length.

Introduction to Logic (Mr. Shuja Ahmad)

This course concentrates on Aristotelian Logic, Symbolic Logic or Computer Logic as well.

Muslim Philosophy (Dr. Khurshid Anwar )

This course includes early theologico- philosophical movements, such as, Mutazilism, Asharism, suffism, etc. some of the leading thinkers, such as, Ibn Khaldun, Shah Wali ullah, Sh, Ahmad Sirhindi, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Iqbal, etc are also discussed at a great length.

Vitalistic Metaphysics ( Mr. Suhail Ahmad Mian)

Some of the Vitalistic thinkers such as Bergson, Neitzsche, Iqbal, and Existentialism, form the core of this course. Attempt is also made to assess the value of vitalistic approach as opposed to conventional approaches to philosophy.

Twentieth Century Philosophy (Mr. Shuja Ahmad)

Focus lies on some of the leading philosophical movements such as, Idealism, Realism, Atomism and philosophy of Language.

Advanced Ethics ( Miss. Samina)

In this course emphasis is laid on Normative and linguistic approaches to Ethics. In normative approach we examine the philosophy of Spinoza, Butler, Hume, Kant and Sidgwick, where as in Lingustic approach we examine the philosophy of G.E. Moore, A.J. Ayer, Stevenson and Hare. Equal emphasis is laid on contemporary moral issues as well.

Analytical Philosophy (Mr. Sher Wahab)

Here emphasis is laid on conceptual analysis as that is a pre-condition to clear thinking. Relationship between word and objects, class-words and classification; ambiguity and vagueness also get equal attention.
