INTRODUCTION :-
The Department of Social Work was established in 1976. It offers a two years Master Programme. The department started semester system. In 1982-83, it was expanded and introduced two more disciplines, i.e. Anthropology and Sociology, were added. The department was renamed Department of Social Work, Anthropology and Sociology. In 1994, the department was bifurcated into the Department of Social Work and the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. The Department of Social Work is recognized nationally and internationally and had developed International Academic Links with:
- School of Social Work, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in 1989.
- School of Social Work and Community Development, Gherad Mercator University, Duisberg, Germany, from 1997-1999.
- Department of Gender Studies, Hull University, U.K in collaboration with Women Studies Centre, University of Peshawar, 2000-2003.
- Department of Social Work, Strathclyde University, Scotland, 2003.
- These linkages provided oppotuniities for the faculty members and M.Phil/Ph.D research scholars to learn and share their experiences for professional growth.
The department of Social Work has worked on different research projects with national and international agencies like, UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO, ILO, WWF, JICA, and Health Net International U.K. The department provides internship opportunity to the students to work with different organizations of great repute. The department has shifted from semester system to Annual System from the Acad: session 2004-05 with the introduction of 2 years B.A (Hons) Programme and One year M.A Programme. MESSAGE:-
The department of social work, University of Peshawar is a significant seat of learning. During the last three decades of its existence, it has produced well groomed and well balanced individuals- traits that are indispensable to successful social workers. They are rendering services in different settings of case work, group work and community organization and development.
We are thankful to Allah that he bestowed upon us a fruitful reward for our efforts and our students showed the best result in the faculty of social sciences.
My dear students, I appreciate you for your achievements and advise you to always show your obedience and respect to your parents, teachers and elders because you can reach the heights of success and perfection only through their good wishes and prayers. Make best use of your time for eternal success and be true to yourself, your belief, your parents and Allah Almighty. |

Vision:-
The department of Social Work is committed to promote social change, problem solving in human relationships, the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well being by utilizing theories, knowledge and skills for the social development of society.
In compliance to HEC policy the department intends to switch over to “four years Integrated Programme of BS” in Social Work from 2007. The syllabus has been prepared and approved through various bodies of the university (Departmental board of studies, Faculty board of studies and Academic Council, University of Peshawar).
Details regarding departmental requirements about space, infrastructure, teaching and office staff and other related necessaties have been provided to the university authorities. It is hoped that these will be provided in the coming session and onwards as the need arises.
Research practicum is essential concomitant of specialization in social work. The department intends to increase the number of computers in the laboratory with the latest computers and research software. |

Admission Criteria:-
- 1 st Priority: 2nd class B. A with Social Work,
- 2 nd Priority: 2nd class B. A with Psychology, Sociology or Home Economics, Law, Statistics (at B.A) , Political Science, Economics, Elective English, Computer Science or B.A Nursing.
