(M.A Part-I) SOCIALOGY

Principles of Sociology/General Sociology (Mr. Syed Owis)

This subject deals with the basics of sociology. It makes the learner acquainted with the overall principles of the subject and the structure of society. Besides this,the theoretical framework of the subject is also made clear in it. It focuses on the sociological concepts and the particular sociological methods and techniques utilized in social research.

Social Psychology (Dr. Anwar Alam)

It is a specialized subject being a confluence of sociology and psychology. It is mainly concerned with the individual behavior influenced by the society. Also those particular psychological techniques and methods are covered which can be utilized in the studies pertaining to human behavior. It helps in identifying the individual/group problems and also in dealing with them in a more scientific way.

Social Anthropology (Dr. Niaz Muhammad)

Social/Cultural Anthropology enriches the learners with the knowledge about the simple social /societies characteristics and thus enable them to utilize that knowledge for the current prevailing problems. It focuses mainly upon the structural composition of the simple societies and the cultural patterns utilized by them for the maintenance of social control system. It also gives a detailed picture of the cultural set-up and the peculiar social institutions.

Research Methodology (Dr. Rashid Khan)

It covers learning of the research methods and techniques, conducting research work besides, the various techniques central to research are clarified and also their application in relation to the nature of the study is made clear. It also covers the basic statistics for the analysis of the data.

Community Development (Mr. Noor Sanauddin)

It applies the sociological knowledge to the problems pertaining to society. It is the applied side of sociology and consists of methods and techniques essential to deal with social problems. Concentrates on equipping the students with the knowledge how to deal with the community people and how to facilitate the process of empowering the people to handle and solve their problems at the grass root level .

(M.A Part-II)

Social Theory and Thought ( Mr. Noor Sanauddin)

This course covers the contributions of different sociologists and social theorists. It also provides the basis for theory construction and differentiates between the social theory and thought. It talks about the paradigm and its characteristics. It gives an understanding of the social phenomena and the very roots of the society.

Social Statistics (Mr. Anwar Alam)

This course deals with the statistical methods and techniques and their application to the data. It helps in the conduction of social research and leading to more reliable and scientific results. Particularly those methods and techniques are focused which are more relevant to the social research. It provides the students with the number of options particular to the nature of the study and enable them to get to the bottom of the problem.

Social Change (Dr. Rashid Khan)

This course deals with the dynamic aspect of society. General sociology concentrates upon the description of the foundation of a society while social change deals with the changes occurring in both the structure and functions of the society. It describes the factors as well as the consequences of such changes in society. It also incorporates the contributions of a large number of sociologists and social thinkers to the phenomenon of social change.

 A. Rural Sociology (Dr. Anwar Alam)

It focuses upon the rural societies and their peculiar characteristics. It describes the rural social institutions and their differentiation in terms of their structures and functions from the urban social institutions. It describes various village types and their self-sustained systems.

b. Sociology of Social Work

This course helps in facilitating the process of the application of Social Work methods and techniques for developing the sense of self-help. The knowledge of general sociology is applied to enhance efficiency of the social work methods and making them compatible to the given nature of the societal structure .

c. Criminology (Mr. Noor Sana ud Din)

This course highlights the history of crimes in relation to the punishment prescribed for the particular crime. Different schools of thoughts in the domain of criminology development and evolution of criminal law and crime as social phenomenon are discussed.

d. Social Demography (Dr. Anwar Alam)

I t deals with the population, its nature, composition and changes in its size etc. besides, the demographic methods and techniques are also covered in it. It concentrates on the correlation of sociological factors and the changes in population and also the impact of population changes on society is analyzed.

e. Medical Sociology

This course deals particularly with those medical problems, which are caused by societal factors. It covers many of the theories pertaining to the socio-medical problems. Those topics are also covered which deal with the rehabilitation of the affectees.

f. Sociology of Islam

This subject deals with the description of the society as is explained by Islam. All those Islamic explanations are covered which help in analyzing the societal structure. It also gives the options, which can be utilized in effectively dealing with the social problems and reforming the social system.
