THE OVERVIEW :
The Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM), University of Peshawar being the only public sector university offering the post graduate diploma in Disaster Preparedness and Management is the hub of many disaster related activities in the region. This centre was established as a result of frequent natural hazards ultimately growing in fatal disasters in the region. The CDPM was inaugurated on April 04, 2009 by the Chancellor, University of Peshawar and the Governor of NWFP. Since its establishment it has started to undertake research in the field of Disaster Preparedness and Management. The CDPM is working dedicatedly in partnership with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). This centre aims at the establishment of good working relationships with other organizations and work more efficiently in the field of Disaster Preparedness and Management.

Theme of the CDPM - Disaster Management Conference-2009
“Integrating Disaster Management into the Policy Making”
The conference language is English.The conference will be a three days event and will be international in scope. Among the various sessions of the conference; sessions will be dedicated to the issues related to the Disaster Management in Pakistan.
A full day session will be allocated to the challenges of considering disaster preparedness in policy making the integration of disaster management to the policy making. Issues of Disaster Management related to Policy Making will be highlighted.
The program committee welcomes the original contribution on the following example topics:
- Disaster Management of Pakistan in the prospect of policy making
- Awareness and training of policy makers
- Suitable policy frameworks for Disaster Management at all levels.
- Policy for development and improvement in disaster management process in Pakistan
- Forecasting and early warning system and long run policies.
- Disaster Management and Sustainable Development.
- Effectiveness of Disaster Management Policies.
- Ways to improve Disaster Management Policies in Pakistan.
- Implementation of Disaster Management Policies.
- Policies and Emergency Operations Centres.
- Role of Civil Societies for the development of Disaster Management Policies.
- Gender Issues and Disaster Management Policies
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
The abstracts must be submitted to the office of the undersigned before the 4 th of July, 2009.
PAPERS / TUTORIALS SUBMISSION
The papers / tutorials must be submitted to the office of the undersigned before the 15 th of August, 2009.
The program committee will evaluate abstracts, papers and tutorials based on quality and relevance. All submissions are held in confidentiality prior to publication in the proceedings.
Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered unless an extension has been granted by the program committee. The requirement of obtaining authorization for the papers must be completed prior to the submission of the final paper, where applicable.
Accepted papers will be presented by their author(s) and will be published in the conference proceedings. The proceedings are provided free of charge to conference attendees. The papers will be also published on the CDPM website.
In case the program committee declines any submitted paper / tutorial; the program committee do not owe any explanation to the author(s).
The submitted papers and presentations may be distributed on a conference CD-ROM. Therefore the authors must be responsible themselves in case of any copyright violation.
